Gold Coast Titans fullback David Mead will lead the PNG LNG Kumuls in this weekend’s Pacific Test against the Fiji Batis. Michael Marum appointed him as captain yesterday in Sydney, Australia.
Marum said Mead has been a PNG Kumul since 2008 and is one of the most senior players in the side with NRL experience, having played for the Gold Coast Titans since 2009. He made his first appearance for the Kumuls in the 2008 World Cup at the age of 19, making him the youngest Papua New Guinean to play for the Kumuls.
He joined them again in their 2013 World Cup campaign and has played over 100 games for the Titans. The people in the nation’s capital say Mead’s appointment as captain is good, because of his experience.
The PNG LNG Kumuls play the Fiji Batis at Pirtek Stadium in Parramatta on Saturday.
