Cricket PNG Umpires End Coaching Course

In further strengthening the development and growth of Cricket in the country, Cricket PNG, in Partnership with Queensland Cricket, conducted a 3-day course for umpires in Port Moresby.

The program attracted a total of 15 participants from current Barramundi players to coaches, umpires and regional managers from 10 centers throughout the country including NCD, Morobe and Oro.

Participants were fortunate to have the support and experience of Queensland Cricket State Umpire Coach, Dave Orchard, along with QC Youth Cricket coordinator, Vic Williams, and QC Coach Education and Training Coordinator, Jeff Thomas.

The program is an initiative by the State Province Partnership Program by the ICC East Asia Pacific Development Program to give member countries the opportunity to share the ongoing development process of emerging affiliate countries.

The program also provides opportunities to develop an ongoing mentor relationship, provide a personal development experience for staff to work and test their skills in different environments with people from different cultural backgrounds, and promote the organization as a contributor to the development of cricket to fledging countries in the region.

Dave Orchard shares the same sentiments with Cricket PNG’s Game Development Manager, Gayan Loku, that the program was well received and beneficial to the participants.

He also added that mental preparation is a vital tool to be equipped with to make consistent good decisions.

Participants will be assessed throughout a number of programs scheduled for the next 12 months.
