Cabinet approves Biometric ID System

Papua New Guineans will now be identified from their finger prints.

The new biometric ID System has been approved by Cabinet and engaged Huawei Technologies to carry it out.

Minister for National Planning Charles Abel made the announcement today saying it will cost 76 million US Dollars or 156 Million Kina.

Funding will come from the Exim Bank loan with K20 million from the 2013 budget.
