Australian Federal Police Donates Soccer Balls

by Theckla Gunga – EMTV, Port Moresby

The Australian Federal Police has donated 50 soccer balls to students and teachers at June Valley Primary in the Nation’s Capital today.

The donation was made in the attempt to involve students in Sport and it was made based on an initiative by a young Australian boy to donate soccer balls to disadvantaged children, around the world.

At the presentation today, the Assistant Commissioner for AFP, Alan Scott, encouraged the teachers and students to teach their children about sports and the opportunities that come with Sport.

“The donation is the first in PNG however donations were also made to other countries like Afghanistan,” said Alan Scott.

The investment of the soccer balls to June Valley was an exciting experience for most students, especially when soccer is a popular sport.

The Head Teacher Mrs Winnifred Iamo told EMTV News that the donations will go a long way in helping them to teach students basic soccer skills.

“Sport and education come together, as they both require determination and commitment,” she said. Iamo said for those who cannot make it through to higher education, sports will provide them the other avenue to excel.
