Aupong: Increase in Sexual Offences in Kutubu

By Fabian Hakalits – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Cases of sexual offences in Kutubu, Southern Highlands Province have increased.

This is according to Moro Police Station Commander, Edward Aupong.

He said that escalating violence in the communities, within families and individuals in Kutubu has led to many sexual offences being committed.

Commander Aupong told EMTV News that most of these cases are sexual offences against women, committed by locals.

On average, two cases are reported monthly, but that has increased. Just this morning, a rape case was reported.

Commander Aupong said these are part of the petty crimes committed, sexual offences, assault and threatening, reported daily to the Moro Police Station.

Since taking office in 2012, he has adopted the community policing concept to address law and order issues.

On juvenile cases, Moro doesn’t have a detention centre that is able to hold juveniles.

Meanwhile, police will conduct their normal Christmas and New Year Operations. Aupong said, festive season operations have already been planned.
