Team PNG athletes who participated in the 2015 Pacific Games will be given their incentives, as promised by the Government of Papua New Guinea.

The official’sponsor of the Games is currently in the process of opening bank accounts for the medal-winning athletes.

K20,000 will be paid to winners of Gold medals, K10,000 for Silver and K5,000 for Bronze medal winners.

All other athletes who participated, but did not win medals, will receive K2,500.

The initial amount that was budgeted was K5.8 million for the estimated 92 Gold medals; however, the government further inlcuded K700,000 in the budget to cover the additional cost of rewarding other athletes.

Minister Tkatchenko clarified that 80 per cent of the athletes are unemployed, and said that the incentive would assist athletes greatly and reward them for the results they have produced for Papua New Guinea.
