The opposition called onthe Australian government to respectthe sovereignty and domestic laws of Pacific Island countries includin PNG.
Its leader, Belden Namah was responding to reports onthe Australian media overthe weekend aboutthe resignation of three senior ministers ofthe government of Nauru overthe asylum seeker issue.
He commendedthe trio for their actions and called oPNG government ministers to take this as an example.
Belden Namah’says Australia has takePNG and ther Pacific Island nations for granted for far too long and should start respectingthem.
He claimed that Australia knewthe fragile nature ofthe Asylum Seeker Pacific Solution Schemeut deliberately proceeded withthe current arrangement which has seen asylum seekers dumped on Nauru and Manus here in PNG
His comments come after three senior ministers ofthe Nauru government resigned overthe asylum seeker issue in that country.
He wantsthe government oPNG to consider this action seriously.
The opposition successfully sought orders for its lawyers to visitthe asylum centre in Manus.
The lawyers are currently in Manus to speak tothe asylum seekers.
