Sitting Member for Kairuku Hiri Paru Aihi being mindful of the matter before the police, said there are no truths as to why police made the arrests at Bereina on Tuesday.
Mr Aihi was referring to the arrest of four men, dressed up as policemen and hijacked several ballot boxes in Bereina.
He clarified that instead of four men arrested as stated in the media; only two were arrested and charged with impersonating a Police Officer and one in possession of unlicensed firearm.
NCD-Central Divisional Commander ACP Francis Tokura also confirmed these reports and stated investigations are continuing to find out who hired the vehicle and issued the uniforms.
Mr Aihi also raised concerns about truckloads of illegal voters at Vanapa – Brown River area casting their votes because genuine voters’ names are not registered in the common roll.
Meanwhile, NCD – Central Divisional Commander ACP Francis Tokura said of the two arrested, one was a relative of the sitting MP.
ACP Tokura said the firearm also belonged to the sitting MP.
He had instructed PPC Central John Maru to request the MP for questioning with CID’s at 6 mile Police Station to clarify his side.
ACP Tokura said overall polling in parts of Central Province were quiet.
