The count down for Bougainville to decide its referendum has begun, and this will need strong political support from leaders, elected into the third House of Representatives.
This was the challenge from Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Bougainville, Bernard Unabali, who said that leaders must serve and portray the image of stewardship.
Bishop Bernard was speaking during the commissioning of the newly elected members of the Bougainville House of Representatives.
Bishop Bernard made this statement during the Holy Eucharistic Celebration at the Our Lady of the Assumption Hahela Parish in Buka.
Joining the Catholic faithful were foreign mission representatives like the US Ambassador to PNG, Walter North.
The homily was centred on the theme: ‘Holy Spirit Driven Change That Brings Fulfillment To Our People’ and Bishop Bernard reminded the newly elected members, to experience humanity in their leadership role.
Bishop Bernard emphasised that elected members are to make the Bougainville House of Representatives, a model and star for the people of the autonomous region.
His strong and powerful message to leaders is to always abide by the Word of God, and be manifested under the Blessed Holy Trinity.
“This will enable better decisions that would be beneficiary to the people of Bougainville,” Bishop Bernard said.
