Helifix Welcomes New Helicopter

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Nationally owned helicopter company Helifix, welcomed a new chopper to its fleet today.

The state-of-the-art 17 seater arrived this morning in Port Moresby and was welcomed by staff, management and other stakeholders.

Helifix owner, Robert Agarobe says the new chopper comes due to the high demand in oil and gas exploration.

“It’s a great achievement for Helifix to add on a new fleet,” he said.

“With the oil and gas sector developing at a faster rate, the demand is growing.”

Commonly known as the AW 139, it is a state-of-the-art helicopter. Agarobe says despite purchasing it, more training for local staff is needed, with close supervision from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

The AW 139 is the first of its kind in the country. It will carry 15 passengers and two operating crew and will commence operation in two weeks time.

The new AW 139 arrived at the Helifix hanger and was anxiously welcome by the Helifix staff this morning in Port Moresby.
