Wutung Border Upgrade

by Mickey Kavera – EM TV, Vanimo

The Wutung Border is finally been being given the attention it deserves, with the construction of the new border facilities nearing completion.

The gensets, and scanners have yet be installed, but once complete, it will house all relevant border agencies to improve border management.

Chairman of the Border Development Authority, Fred Konga, was on site to see firsthand the progress of the project.

Staff housing for the various border agencies have already been completed.

Prior to setting up the facility, border crossing has been poorly managed.

But with these facilities there will be control over the movement of goods and people across the border.

BDA is working closely with the Sandaun Provincial Government to iron out its social obligations to the landowners, to prevent landowner disputes.

A date is yet to be set to officially open the monument and the facility.

This will come about once all discussions with the Indonesian Government are finalised.
