Teams to Assess Areas Affected by EL Nino

A national approach will be taken by the National Disaster Centre to collect assessment on areas affected by the EL Niño.

NDC Acting Director, Martin Mose, announced that four teams will be deployed to areas most affected in PNG and will provide valuations on the affected areas.

The National Disaster Centre is yet to identity the four teams that will be sent out to areas affected the most.

These teams will include representatives from Water PNG, health, Works and Education Departments, National Weather Service, National Disaster Centre, police and the media.

This team will be assessing food security and waste storage in the four regions and informing people of the dangers associated with El Niño.

While the dry season is predicted to last for over four months, it is predicted that a flood period will follow once dry season ends.

This means people must not only prepare for the dry season but start preparing for a continuous wet season, early next year.
