The Southern Highlands Provincial Government has begun a plan to replacethe aging workforce with young, better educated and more productive people.
This is a training scheme to beef capacity to implementthe provincial administration’s master plan, designed to takethe resource rich province intothe future.
This is a landmark decision made bythe provincial executive council in its meeting on Wednesday, January 16, in Mendi.
With a national Budget that’s rural-focused, this program will see graduates from universities recruited and deployed to all districts includingthe provincial headquarters to implementthe government’s policies.
This concept has received backing from all MP’softhe province.
It is expected to attract not just graduates fromthe province but also from aroundthe country.
And withthe administration putting togther a master plan to guidethe province for the next five years,these graduates are expected to drive this plan forward.
Funding for the program has been catered for inthe provincial budget which was handed down last Thursday.
Southern Highlands Governor William Powi saidthe graduate and training program will also serve as a succession plan for the province.
