There’s a reason why Raphaela Kaore switched codes from Athletics to Boxing.
The PNG elite runner has now teamed up with Sister Debbie, training under the Abau Amatuer Boxing club, for the Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament to be held in Brisbane next month.
She is known in the Athletics department but now you see her at home with the gloves, and punching bags.
The first question that comes to mind is why is she taking up boxing? And the reason was told.
Kaore got injured while with the Athletics PNG team in Kokopo and she had to switch codes after seeing no help from the Athletics Union.
As a first timer, she promised to work closely with Coach Ricky Berua with the basics.
She has a mixed parentage of West New Britain and Central. She is gritty, and very confident for the 2015 Pacific Games.
Training along with her sister Debbie ties the sisterhood relationship, and looks to spawn positive results in her newly selected code.
Kaore doesn’t like to socialize much and always spares time for her family, apart from work and training.
