PNGDF Major Change

The Papua New GuineaDefence Force is poised for major changes inthe years ahead.

This announcement was made this afternoon bythe Minister for Defence Dr. Fabian Pok attheir headquarters in Murray Barracks Port Moresby.

Mr. Pok in a news conference saysthese changes are a way forward in modernisingthe Papua New GuineaDefence Force.

Some ofthe changes include a public private partnership agreement to provide uniforms for the Defence Force, revitalising its fleets and increasingthPNGDF man power.

He says for the first time all projects abover K500, 000 will be tendered to ensure funds allocated are used for their intended purposes.

Assistance has also been sought fromIndonesia and China to carry out ther infrastructure developments.

Eight million Kina was given bythe Chinese to upgradethPNGDF gymnasium and swimming pools.

WhiletheIndonesians has offered to do joint border patrols and offered spaces intheir Universities forPNG F personnels to take up masters studies.

Mr. Pok says he is determined to see this achieved.
