Pacific MMI announced today that it will be covering Team PNG’s travel insurance to the Rio Olympics, as well as the PNG Olympics Committee’s insurance needs.
Managing Director, Wayne Dorgan, congratulated all athletes who qualified on merits, saying this is a continuation of Pacific MMI’s support to sports in PNG.
PNG Olympics Committee (PNGOC) Fundraising Chairman, Syd Yates, thanked Pacific MMI for its support, and also acknowledged their contributions to PNGOC’s preparations in the lead up to Rio.
He said Pacific MMI has been giving the much needed insurance cover for most big sporting events such as the Pacific Games and the Pacific Mini Games as well and that has proven the company’s dedication to supporting sports in the country.
PNG’s Olympics Team Chef de Mission, Emma Waiwai, encouraged all athletes to be focused on their games and not to worry about insurance.
PMMI Managing Director Wayne Dorgan says the company’s sponsorship is a commitment for excellence.
Meanwhile, Rio – bound athletes include, Ryan Pini in swimming, Thadius Katua in boxing, Maximillion and Samantha Kassman in Taekwondo, Morea Baru in weightlifting with Toea Wisil and Theo Piniau in athletics.
Present for the insurance announcement today and bound for Rio as well was Judo Athlete, Raymond Ovinou, who lost his father recently.
There will be another Olympic briefing tomorrow when all athletes and competitions they will be facing will be officially announced.
