PNG Judo Champs to attend Oceania Championships

PNG Judo Olympian Raymond Ovinou and Ashaan Nelson will attendthe Oceania Championships in Cairns next week.

The Championships is an entry event forPNG Judo to qualify for the 2016 Olympics andtheWorld Judo Championships.

ThPNG Judo Federation will be sending Raymond Ovinou and Ashaan Nelson to an event that will determine and score points forPNG rsquo;s judo athletes totheWorld championships later this year.

The 2013 Oceania Union Judo Championships will be staged atthe Cairns Convention Centre.

Beth athletes know what’s at stake and need to stay focus as a lead up tothe 2016 Rio Olympics as well.

Judo was an optional sport for the 2015 Pacific Games and was disappointingly dropped and still awaitsthe outcome of an appeal fromthPNG Judo Federation.

The Judo Selection process starts at club level where both athletes have been selected fromthe POM NATS and Gereka Club in NCD.

Upon return fromthe Oceania ChampionshipsthPNG Judo Federation will focus on setting up a Judo club atthe National SportInstitute in Goroka.
