Pacific Islands one on Climate Change Fight

By Samantha Semoso – EMTV Online

On arrival at Nausori International Airport last night for the third Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF) summit, Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare said, “with one voice, Pacific Island countries can fight climate change.”

He said the context of this meeting had already been planned and he believes that one of the top items of the agenda is climate change.

“Small islands states too involve themselves in the increase of greenhouse effect through logging and many other ways of pollution, this is an issue that needs to be discussed at the meeting to find out ways to fight climate change,” Sogavare said.

He said the PIDF meeting had come at the right time in preparation for the world climate change summit that will held in Paris.

“The meeting is a platform where all leaders from the Pacific Island nations will discuss the issue of climate change to prepare them for the summit in Paris,” he said.

“As Pacific Island nations we should tell bigger countries they should behave themselves in terms of using gas emissions because we are affected by it through climate change.”
