New High Performance Training Centre

by Godwin Eki – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

The Papua New Guinean Government is now working closely with the PNG Olympics committee as well as other sporting bodies, to build a new and bigger high performance training centre, at an estimated budget of K30 million.

Minister for Sport, Justin Tkatchenko, says the aim of the project is to keep all PNG elite athletes in the country, making their home a training hub for all athletes representing PNG, and to produce PNG’s very own home grown talents.

He said the  O’Neill-Dion Government has supported the plan and has agreed for the project to start next year.

The project will go on tender for interested companies to take on the project, with the K30 million already allocated.

The new Sport facility will primarily be used by PNG’s elite athletes to do for their training sessions with their coaches in preparations for their national and international events.

Meanwhile, the current high performance centre will still be used by the athletes until the new one is ready.
