The National Capital District Commission has purchased five new compactors to improver waste collection.
The compactors were commissioned yesterday by Governor Powes Parkop and will begin operations next week.
The five new compactors were lined up atthe NCDC Tarpot Headquarters
NCDC Waste Manager Janet Haua says it has been a long time coming for the division to have its own waste collectors.Intheir absence, this job has been out sourced.
The compactors have been specifically designed to cater for the road conditions in Port Moresby, and to handlethe alarming waste generation inthe city.
NCD Governor Powes Parkop’said whilethey are trying to addressthe inconsistent waste collection system inthe city, resident must also be mindful ofthe howthey can assist.
Purchased fromIndia for around a million kina,the five arethe first of a fleet of fifteen. The next ten will be brought in overthe next two years.
