Morobe AIDS Committee Lacks Funding To Deliver Awareness

Lack of funding continues to be a major setback for the Morobe Provincial AIDS committee in delivering awareness on HIV/AIDS to rural parts of Morobe.

 

As Lae continues to grow as an economic hub,the provincial AIDS committee is also concerned aboutthe growing prevalence rate of HIV inthe province.

They called onthe Provincial government to establish respective district AIDS committees to deliver awareness and counterthe epidemic.

 

At a Press Conference yesterday, Morobe Provincial AIDS Committee Members made several recommendations that focus on alleviating HIV AIDS in Morobe Province.

 

Amongstthe recommendations made wasthe delivery of awareness tothe bulk ofthe population in rural areas.

 

The members say funding remains a major problem that contributed tothe lack of delivery of awareness programs tothe rural areas.

 

The Committee LLeadersmeanwhile have called onthe Morobe Provincial Government to assist with funding to counter HIV AIDS in Morobe Province.

 

Morobe province has becomethe economic hub oPNG’s economy. The number of people flocking intothe city has also grown inthe past two years.

 

There are also growing concerns amongstthe committee members that Morobe province and Papua New Guineamay go downthe same rout as South Africa where HIV AIDS alone killed more than a million people involved inthe country’s economy.
