Momis: Repair Bougainville Public Service

by Fabian Hakalits – EM TV, Port Moresby

The Autonomous Bougainville Government President, Chief Dr John Momis, has directed the ABG Chief Secretary, Monovi Amani, to repair and service the Bougainville Public Service.

In his presidential address to the public servants, Momis says “time is the worst enemy as we have less than five years under this autonomous arrangement to develop the capacity, formulate appropriate policies, pass necessary legislations and draw down on powers to administer services to the people of Bougainville.”

Momis says the ABG wants the public service to be effective and efficient, serving the government’s interest and for public servants to perform.

“This is to ensure the Bougainville Public Service delivers on the autonomous government’s expectations based on key performance indicators, “ Momis says.

Momis says that enough is enough and the directives “shape up or ship out” are for Chief Secretary Monovi Amani and the senior management team and administration to immediately repair the public service.

Momis says non-public servants will be asked to exit, if they fail to perform and comply with government expectations.

Momis says the ABG and its public service must perform against the targets set which he highlighted in this tenth anniversary speech.

A task for the Autonomous Bougainville Government is to weed out corruption within the public service.
