NCD Police have arrested and charged a man in relation to the death of his wife on New Year’s Eve.
Billy Aki, the President of NCD Suburban rugby league, turned himself in yesterday.
Aki was charged with willful murder and has been detained at the Boroko Police Station.
This was confirmed by NCD Metropolitan Superintendent, Benjamin Turi, who said Aki will only be granted bail by the National Court.
It is understood Aki physically abused his wife at the Governor’s Grand Final Cup at the Kone Tiger’s Oval last month, in front of spectators.
According to family members, Aki and Louisa Daniel were married for seven years and have a four-year-old son.
The son is said to be currently with the victim’s family.
Distraught family members of the late Louisa Daniel said she lived in an abusive marriage.
NCD Governor, Powes Parkop, said he was not aware of the details of the incident that took place on the day.
However, Parkop is calling on the victim’s family to not interfere with police investigations.
“I want to pass my sympathy to the relatives of the wife.
“I want to assure them that Billy is willing to submit to the law and is in the hands of the police now so let’s leave that with the police,” said the Governor.
