Raymond Gunemba, captain of Lae City Dwellers, has played a key role in his club’s success over the last two years.
Last year, Lae City Dwellers were champions of the National Soccer League (NSL) when they defeated one of the region’s strongest teams, Hekari United.
In 2016 Lae became only the second club in NSL history to win back-to-back championships under Gunemba’s captaincy. He also played a crucial role earlier this year with the national football team in the OFC World Cup Qualifier.
Gunemba will line up for the Eastern Suburbs Football Club in New Zealand, in the Northern Premier League, where the club has recently been granted a professional licence in the top league.
With Gunemba paving the way for opportunities such as this to exist, other players from the national football team could have the opportunity for overseas stints in the likes of Waira Wama, Koriak Upaiga, Tommy Semmy, David Muta, Felix Komolong and fellow LCD team mate Nigel Dabinyaba.
