Continuous heavy rain in the Southern Highlands Province has resulted on several feeder roads leading to schools and aid post closed. Over five thousand people are being affected.
This has also caused students not to attend school due to the continuous rainfall in the area.
The Nipa Munhiu road that leads to Mendi town and coffee plantations, including
Three LLG of Nipa, Lai valley and Karinz LLG are cut off.
Egenda councilor Yalol Kobol and many leaders are calling government to look in to this road. Mr Kobol said the provincial government must respond as possible has people’s lives has been affected.
Kobol wants the national government and relevant authorities to restore the services of education and health as it is a priority.
Meanwhile the damaged section of the National Highway in the Poroma area in Nipa Kutubu was re-opened last week.
Heavy vehicles began using the road after constant rain caused flooding and damaged sections of the road early this month.
