A family residing in the June Valley suburb of Port Moresby suffered a double blow of tragedy in the early hours of this morning when their home was burnt to the ground, leaving them only with the clothes they were wearing.
This follows after the passing of their son on the 13th of this month.
There were only three people at the house at the time of the fire, while the rest of the family were away in the village to bury their late son.
By the time the fire brigade arrived at the scene it was too late to save the house.
Neighbours and the surrounding June Valley community tried to put out the fire but it was all in vain due to the ongoing low water pressure experienced in the June Valley and Tokarara area.
Jerry Nicholas, who grew up in Tokarara and June Valley, said this kind of incident could have been avoided easily. “These two places have been neglected by the government for a very long time,” said Nicholas.
The family is appealing for kind donations to help them go through this tragic time. For cash donation, deposit on the account name Agnes Aisi on 1013300882.
