EPC into final rounds

The Eastern Papua Carnival soccer competition is now into its final rounds as team’s battle for top placing’s to earn themselves finals positions.

An experienced coach has also been secured for the Muruks team this season.

Works Minister and member for Imongu Francis Awesa announced this on Tuesday.

To Mr Awesa, the absence of Mendi Muruks in the Digicel Cup competition will be a blow to the players and supporters.

He says all parliamentarians and interested sponsors worked over the last four days to finally secure a major sponsor and four minor sponsors.

The provincial government has also thrown its full support behind the team to ensure they participate in the 2012 Digicel Cup Competition.

He was disappointed over the manner in which the PNGNRL and the franchise owner Tom Higgins have left this team stranded almost missing out on the country’s prestigious rugby league competition.

Mendi Muruks has been the champion of the semi-professional league on two occasions and has played out in the top four each season.

It has played out of Lae because of the franchise owner’s place of residence. Now the team will live up to its name, making Mendi its home.

The Muruks team will make the new Tente Oval in Mendi their home ground and not Lae as used to be.
