By Eric Haurupma (UPNG Journalism Student) EM TV, Port Moresby

Eugine Moge is a two year old cleft palate patient from the Western Highlands Province.

He is one of several cleft palate patients, who have defects in their mouth and lips before child birth.

Eugine is now recovering at the Pacific International Hospital after successully undergoing cleft palate surgery.

Eugine’s mother Serah Moge says he was affected by this deformity since child birth, however, he could not be treated at the local hospital in Western Highlands Province.

Sharing the same ordeals are children like Simeon and Giamelin from the Morobe Province, who are all thankful to Centre of Hope for providing an opportunity for these children to undergo free surgery at the Pacific International Hospital to correct their deformities.

At least 20 patients undergoing surgery were discharged, while others are still being brought in for operations headed by medical experts from the United States. It is an annual operation conducted at PIH.
