Autonomous Bougainville Government: Bougainville has somewhat failed to properly acquit for funds

By Meriba Tulo – EMTV News, Buin

There has been an admission that Bougainville has somewhat failed to properly acquit for funds drawn down from the national level.

Autonomous Bougainville Government Chief Secretary, Joseph Nobetau, made these remarks when addressing a meeting of Finance Officers from around the country.

According to Mr. Nobetau, whilst the ABG had continually accused the National Government of not honoring its financial commitments to Bougainville, the ABG was also to blame for not strengthening its public service to prevent financial mismanagement.

Mr. Nobetau was speaking at the 15th Provincial & District Finance Managers Conference in Buin, South Bougainville.

His comments come at a time when the ABG is preparing for the upcoming political referendum, scheduled to be held in June 2019.

National Finance Minister, James Marape arrived this afternoon to officiate at the conference, where he is expected to announce several new innovations that Finance Department is looking to implement in achieving the recently launched Third Medium Term Development Plan
