Annual PNG Soccer Charity Cup to Help Encourage Healthy Lifestyles

Since 1998, the Annual PNG Soccer Charity event has attracted massive interest in the Nation’s capital.

Hosted as a 7 a-side yearly competition, the Charity Cup has grown from strength to strength, with organisers now shifting their focus off the field.

The Charity Cup since its inception has targeted workers in business and the government as participants in organised Seven-a-Side football events over the long Easter weekend.

It has become a vehicle for bonding that companies and the government by encouraging their workers to participate.

Corporate participants have included; ExxonMobil, ANZ, BSP, Westpac, Puma Energy, Nasfund, SP Brewery, Central Bank, FinCorp, Air Niugini, Moni Plus, Digicel, Bmobile Vodafone, the Lamana Group, the Brian Bell Group and Trophy Haus.

The participants from the public sector have included Forestry, Justice and Attorney General, Finance, Treasury, Works, Industrial Relations and Customs.

The American Embassy has also been a regular participant. While some accounting and law firms have continued to participate also.

The Charity’s new focus is now on using charity soccer events as a pathway to helping workers wake up to the health risks associated with lifestyle changes and take conscious steps to deal with the risks and lifestyle changes so they may live healthier, longer and more productive lives.

Organisers will be working in partnership with the National Women Doctors Association Inc. in advancing this new focus.
