The PNG Women in Business kicked off its second major expo to a vibrant start, at the Waigani Constitutional Park in the nation’s capital today.
The expo will run for two weeks from the 2nd to the 12th of July coinciding with the Pacific Games, and will featured an impressive range of small to large scale businesses, talent and skills from both local and foreign women.
Proud, determined and aspiring PNG business women braved the heat and dusty conditions in Port Moresby by turning up in the hundreds to witness the launching of the foundation’s second major expo, and set up stalls to showcase their products and services.
The event was launched by Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, who told the women that the key to running successful businesses is discipline and resilience despite the many challenges that occur.
Prime Minister O’Neill said the expo is an opportunity for mothers to come together and discuss policies which will empower women in our communities.
Also speaking at the official opening, was NCD Commissioner representing Women and Director of PNG WiB, Janet Sape, who revealed that the expo will be expecting a delegation of 40 Indonesian women, who have been sponsored by the Indonesian Government to take part in the expo. Also expected is a group from the Solomon Islands.
The first expo held in Morobe Province in 2010 brought over 400 women from around the country, region and world.
This year, the number of participants looks to surpass that amount.
Women in Business initially started with about 50 women mostly from urban areas, by now proudly boasts 15000 members from both urban and rural areas, indicating a high level of interest business practices amongst PNG women.
