Non-Tax Revenues: Land Recovery Workshop

A workshop targeting the recovery of Land Lease Arrears throughout Papua New Guinea began today in Port Moresby.

The workshop will address a way forward to collect non-tax revenues which the Government has missed in the past.

Finance and Lands Department are jointly conducting the workshop involving other government agencies, stakeholders and Non- Government Organizations.

Over the years, outstanding land lease arrears in PNG have accrued into millions.

The workshop will now discuss and strategize how to maximize the collection of non- tax revenues for the government to assist annual budgets for better service delivery.

Acting Finance Department Secretary, Dr Ken Ngangan, when addressing workshop participants, said over K200 million was outstanding.

He says the workshop will create new methods to help recover this money.

Secretary for Lands Romilly Kila Pat says the collection of revenues has been difficult in the past due to structural issues and capacity demand.

The Secretary also called on lease holders to comply and pay up all outstanding leases.
