30 Tonne Weight Limit Imposed for all Motorists

By Stanley Ove Jr – EMTV Port Moresby

The Works Department has imposed a 30-tonne per load notice to motorists, trucking companies, operators and business houses for crossing temporary Bailey bridges along the Highlands Highway.

The notice comes after the collapse of the Okiyufa Bridge in Goroka and the Banab Bridge in Madang.

Works Secretary David Wereh during a visit to the Banab Bridge said the importance of road is seen when a bridge collapses and that motorists must take heed of weight limitations.

Meanwhile, a temporary Bailey bridge has been installed in Okiyufa and works on a permanent structure will be set up once resources are available.

The Government has also allocated K50million for the construction of new permanent bridge in Banab.
