There were smiles all around on Saturday whenthe Australian doctors and nurses arrived for Operation Open Heart.
The Australian team was led by coordinator Russell Lee and was greeted atthe Royal Papuan Yacht Club by members ofthe Operation Open Heart Foundation.
This year marksthe 20th year of Operation Open Heart.
Patron of Operation Open Heart and Minister for Sport and Pacific Games Justin Tkatchenko thankedthe Australian team for their commitment to saving lives.
Minister Tkatchenko added thatthe O’Neill-Dion Government has committed two million kina every year inthe budget for Operation Open Heart.

“The most amazing thing about Operation Open Heart in Papua New Guineais that it hasn’t been an investment ofthe government or any individual, it’s been an investment of everybody,” said Russell Lee.
Mr. Lee reflected onthe past years and acknowledgedthe work ofthe governmentoindividuals and private sector in supportingthe cause.
The Royal Papuan Yacht Club presented a sum of K29, 000.00 to Operation Open Heart Foundation.
All operations will start this week.
