Vanessa Kerton Smthe, a friendofthe American Scientist attacked and raped on Karkar Island, sharedthe horrifying ordeal faced by her friend.
Dame Carol Kidu was also present. She had assisted withthe American scientists’ return to Port Moresby.
She saidthe government has responded tothe incident and thers that have occurred recently;they will now needthe help of civil societies to put an end to such violent crimes.
TheInstitute of National Affairs also spoke against such crimes. Executive Director Paul Berker saidthere needs to be a more dramatic response.
CIMC’s Family and Sexual Violence Action Committeee Coordinator Ume Wainetti also said misunderstanding and ignorance by people, contributes to violence crimes against anther person.
