Weekend Sail Race

By Shane Saroya – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

The Three Peaks Challenge, which took place last weekend here in Port Moresby, saw a strong turnout of competitors take part in the brutally challenging event.

Competitors were faced with racing over a 200 mile course at sea, before running a 500m long race to finish.

The competition began well with the course instructor explaining the course before the sailors set sail.

The 200+ mile course began with the yachts lining up at the starting line.

They then raced down to Manubada Island and a swimmer from each yacht took a dip in the open waters to swim to the shores and then run 500m before making it back to the boat.

The yachts raced back to the yacht club after almost two hours out at sea and then the final leg of the race saw the runners scale the Burns Peak hill under the scorching heat before finishing at the base.
