Telefomin District in Sandaun Province celebratedtheIndependence Anniversary for the first time.
Along withthe celebrations, came blessings for more projects to be implemented by local MP Solan Mirisim.
The people also gavetheir views onIndependence and development orthe lack of it in an isolated District.
Geographically, Telefomin is closer to Tabubil and Kiunga inthe Western Province. It’s about three hour’s flight fromthe Provincial Capital of Vanimo to Telefomin, while only 15 minutes flight from Tabubil inthe Western province to Telefomin to access basis services.

The plight ofthe people has not fallen on deaf ears,theIndependence celebrations were a blessing for them asthe local MP announced major development projects.
Amongthe projects to be implemented isthe Telefomin Airstrip, to be upgraded in order for bigger aircrafts to land. Currently, only third airline companies fly in and outodelivering much needed supplies.
ther projects include a road project that will connect Telefomin tothe mining township of Tabubil in Western Province.
Mr Mirisim toldthe people, he will launch ITFacilities for Telefomin High School next Tuesday. This will enable over 1000 students’to access basic information and do research online.
He urgedthe people and his critics to give him time to implement much ofthe projects inthe District.
