Suspended Hospital Board Chairman Responds

Suspended chairman of Western Highlands Provincial Heath Authority Board Chairman, David Guinn, has responded to Minister’s announcement to suspend the board.

Mr.Guinn said there were recent rumors but several meetings were held with the Heath Minister and therefore this announcement comes as a surprise to the entire board.

“We have been having constant dialogue with the Minister and the Health Secretary and this comes as a surprise, because an investigation was completed of which the report is here with us,”said Mr.Guinn.

The board was suspended last week following yet another strike action by doctors and nurses of Mt.Hagen Hospital.

The staff of Mt,Hagen Hospital walked off their jobs on August 22, when one of their Union Representative was banned by the Hospital Board from entering the Hospital premises.

Dr. Benjamin Yapo has been leading the doctors and nurses, as well as other health workers, in their fight against the now suspended board.

This fight started earlier this year, 2016, from allegations of corruption and mismanagement within the Hospital board and management.

The strike action last week is one of the many taken by this group of professionals, and is the latest in this hospital crisis.
