Special Report: Cancer Patients in PNG Cancer Facility Call on Government to Look into Their Plight

Patients currently admitted to the PNG Cancer Facility in Lae are calling on the National Government to look into their plight.

One patient we spoke to yesterday, said she had already spent K8,000 just to buy morphine used as a pain killer.

The spouse of another patient said she and her husband had spent about K20,000 just to travel to Port Moresby to get CT scans.

The patients are no longer willing to be accommodated in an old run down building where both male and female patients are forced to use the same toilet and shower facilities.

The patients told EMTV the problems surrounding the PNG cancer treatment center is much more deeply rooted, and it needs political intervention.

The patients and staff came out on the media during the first visit of the Governor General Elect Bod Dadae.
