The New Year period in Port Moresby was a peaceful one for 2015/16 with no major crimes reported.
Police beefed up their manpower with over 400 sector personnel patrolling and conducting major roadblocks throughout many parts of the city.
All police units and sector patrols in Port Moresby conducting operations ceased their activities as of yesterday.
The roadblocks started at 8pm and continued through the night and into the New Year.
A media team, together with a police escort, patrolled the city while police conducted checks on vehicles to validate their registration and driver’s licenses.
Throughout the city the sounds of sirens wailing could be heard throughout the night as police spot-checked numerous vehicles and confiscated large amounts of alcohol.
New Year in Port Moresby was peaceful with no major crimes being reported, aside from two car accidents along the freeway in Hohola and Gordon’s.
