The Papua New Guinea Defence Force, will be building the capability of its Air Transport Wing.
PNGDF Commander, Colonel Gilbert Toropo, says the Air Transport Wing plays an important role in supporting the PNGDF, to achieve outcomes set by the national government. He says, the national government is committed to supporting PNGDF improve its air capability.
John Matagorakikai was today promoted to the rank of Lt Colonel, to be in charge of the Air Transport wing. He brings with him, a wealth of experience, and professionalism, to assist the ATW.
There are less than 200 men servicing aircraft under the ATW, and less than 50 who can fly.
Mr. Matagorakikai says, it is a very big task, but he is ready for the challenge.
He also said that the CASA will be grounded, and sent to Indonesia for servicing.
The Air Transport Wing has, in the past, been used to implement various government programs, who have required the use of air transportation.
