OTML Hosts Mining Week

The event took place between 18th and 22nd March, underthetheme “Tomorrow Your Reward for Being Safe Today”.

OTML CEO and Managing Director Nigel Parker said learning about mine safety is a community affair, especially for children whose parents are employed withthe mine.

 

“We are looking at… demonstratingthe risks that all of our workforce front every day ofthe week, and to try to get down intothe level ofthe children’so thatthey can start to understand whattheir fthers andtheir mthers go through each day.” Mr. Parker said.

 

TheIndoor Basketball Stadium housed eleven booths that displayed information on Mining Operations.

 

There were demonstrations on how to use machines safely; Young visitors were also giventhe opportunity to take part in safety activities.

 

Event Co-ordinator Ms. Samantha Andreas said, “We are overwhelmed with school children. They heard about it onthe first day andthere were so many influx of kids coming in and trying to participate in each ofthe booths and activities…”.

 

RenownePNG musician Pati Potts Doi added flavour tothe exposition by performing three live gigs towardsthe end ofthe week.
