Nurses frusrated over late payment of salaries

More than 30 Nurses from Catholic run health centers in Madang marched last Friday to the Catholic Church headquarters demanding to know why their salaries have not been paid on time.

For about a year, nurses from Alexishafen hospital outside Madang town have not been receiving their salaries on time.  Sometimes, their fortnightly salary is paid at the end of the month.

At a meeting with the Madang’s Archbishop, their representatives   told of their personal difficulties in feeding their families and paying for schools fees.

The Catholic Health authorities, meanwhile, said it was a national government problem and that funding difficulties could not be solved by the church.
