Dr Ken Ngangan is now the PNG Government’s Finance Secretary.
He was previously acting in the position for 18 months, until 27th of May, when he was officially announced as the finance secretary.
Finance Minister, James Marape, made the official announcement yesterday at the Institute of Public Administration in Port Moresby.
Taking a break from yesterday’s parliament session, Minister Marape made time to make the appointment official.
The finance minister pointed out that although 18 months was lengthy, he was confident that Dr Ngangan displayed leadership to have his approval.
Dr Ken Ngangan is not new to the country’s bureaucracy, having vast working experience in the Personnel Management Department.
The finance secretary acknowledged the increased number in misappropriation and poor monitoring of public monies, which have become rife in the country.
He explained the initiatives in place to counter ill-practices.
Dr Ngangan said, public finance management programs were in place to empower his staff and raise the standard of finance competency, which complemented the Public Finance Management Act.
