Madang Disaster Office To Clarify Fund Usage

Papua New Guinea’s National Disaster Office has confirmed that a total of K50,000 was sent to the Madang Provincial Government, to kick start relief operations for Manam Island victims.

The details as to how that money was used, or not, is yet to be clarified.

The Madang Governor, Jim Kas, said that those details are at the discretion of his disaster officer to explain.

Meanwhile, the Manam Island Ward Members have confirmed, that a team from the Madang Provincial Government arrived on their shores yesterday, to deliver 20kg bags of rice on the island, to be distributed, one to a household.

Manam Island is located in the Bismarck Sea across the Stephan Strait on the northeast coast of mainland, Madang Province.

The Ward Members have expressed gratitude over the provincial government’s reactions at last, but are appealing for water especially and other rations, apart from just rice.

The Madang Governor Jim Kas in response said, that more supplies will reach Manam Island in time.
