Land Grab: Aerodrome land illegally sold

The National Airports Corporation is ready to take action againstthe illegal grabbing of Aerodrome land.

Former landowners have entered into illegal land deals. There are many prominent figures that have been buying land illegally.

Aerodrome land in Port Moresby covers approximately 762 hectares and 300 hectares has been used, whichthe Jacksons airport is situated on.

Betthere is a land grab of unimaginable proportions going on right underthe nose ofthe National Air Ports Corporation.

One clear example isthe portion of land onthe ther side ofthe run way. Dekenai Construction has practically bull dozedthe land ready to build mixed developmento32 hectares of it.

And it’s done so despite NAC issuing a restraining order againstthe company.

According to law,the land act does not have any jurisdiction over aerodrome land. The land is zoned for specific purposes and any persons or company purporting to have titles within aerodrome land is illegal.

The land grab is enormous, NAC official show usthe extent. They name a number of prominent people including politicians and even former diplomats.

It’s believedthe rise inthe price of rental is a direct effect ofthe land grab. A lot of make shift houses and shanties have been built.
