By Phyllia Pisep, EMTV Cadet Journalist – Lae

Despite being labelled as one of PNG’s notorious towns, Lae city proved critics wrong by hosting its first ever ‘Carols by the Lake’ concert over the weekend.

Families gathered as early as 5 p.m. at Lae ‘Raun Wara’ to take glimpse of Carols being sung and danced to by Choir groups, Local Singers and Dentists.

Lae MP John Rosso, in his opening remarks, expressed his gratitude and says he is proud of the people in Lae as their attitude has changed.

The concert saw families traveled as far as West Taraka and Nadzab.

Lae’s Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie said in previous years most residents do not attend events at night because of the doubts of safety and respect.

He added that he was happy about the turn out.

Residents of all ages came to witness the event, which many residents said they were thankful for.

Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu who attended the concert pledged to make the event bigger next year (2019) and committed K500,000 to improve the event.
