K25 million allocated for SHP Road Projects

Southern Highlands Governor William Powi saysthe Provincial Government will rehabilitate all major roads inthe province.

As well,there will be improverments to hospitals and bridges. A sum of K25 million has been allocated towardsthe cost ofthe projects.

Governor Powi says money will be used to fixthe existing infrastructure. Top ofthe maintenance list isthe construction and sealing of colonial and government roads.

Asthe province progresses throughthe transition phase with new Hela Province, Governor Powi says funds for the Restoration Program will be sourced mainly from Provincial Services Improverment Program Fund. This he says will improver some ofthe remote roads inthe province.

He also presented K600, 000 to a local contractor Construct Oceanic Ltd to continue road works in Mendi town.

Southern Highlands Provincial Government will also roll – out ther development programs to rehabilitate all run –down facilities as well.

Meanwhile, Governor Powi presented a Cheque of K300, 000 to WaterPNG on Tuesday.

The money will go towards carrying out feasibility studies for a major water project in Mendi. The funding comes fromthe Provincial Support Improverment Program or PSIP of K10 million.

Governor Powi said Mendi is developing and sothere needs to be proper water and sewerage services.
