‘Just Play’ Program Resumes

By Jeremy Mogi – EM TV, Port Moresby

PNG Football Association’s Just Play coordinator, Margaret Aka, is confident that the program will be bigger and better than last year.

The program had focused on involving students from the ages of 10 to 18 years of age, utilising football skills and techniques to spread awareness on social and health issues.

With support from:

  • the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA);
  • the Australian Government, through its agencies AusAID and the Australian Sport Commission – Football Federation Australia;
  • and UNICEF

the program is delivering significant, positive change.

In January, a ‘Just Play’ coordinator’s workshop outlined key areas of focus for 2015. This workshop included a roll-out program targeting centres throughout the country, including provinces and associations, that are currently not affiliated to PNGFA.

Teachers have been an integral part of the program, integrating it with their current teaching and sporting classes with coordinator, Margaret Aka, expressing a lot of positive feedback from their involvement.

The program hopes to have young players, graduate into senior levels of football in the future.
