The Immigration and Citizenship Service Authority has transformed itself in a short time from an under-staffed office with a poor public reputation, into a high-performing independent agency.
Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Rimbink Pato, highlightedthese achievements recently in Port Moresby.
He said 2013 has beenthe O’Neill Government’s Year of Implementation and that Immigration has delivered on thistheme.
Foreign Affairs & Immigration Minister, Rimbink Pato, recently spoke about how Immigration had contributed tothe key priorities ofthe Government.
Amongthese is “dual citizenship”, enjoyed by citizens of more than 60 countries in this modern and global world.
Minister Pato complimentedthe contributions of Immigration tothe constitutional amendment Bell that is currently before parliament to enable dual citizenship.
Immigration has also been a key enabler ofthe government’s focus on tourism promotion.
It has removerd visa fees for tourists, eliminated backlogs, reduced visa processing times, streamlined processing of cruise ship passengers’ and opened a border post in PNG rsquo;s next international travel hub of Tokua Airport.
Minister Pato said next year,they will implement new migration legislation, dual citizenship, and improverments tothe passport and visa systems.
More provincial and overseas offices will be opened anPNG will begin to settle genuine refugees withinthPNG community.
Minister Pato is confident that if 2013 is anything to go by, Immigration is more than ready for the challenges ahead.
